13 Aug 2023 - NSTR Last Day at Nellis Air Force Base Las Vegas NV

Well, it's a wrap here at Desert Eagle RV Park, Nellis Air Force Base, Las Vegas NV.  We have really enjoyed our stay here and would stay here again.  Park has been great, the staff has been outstanding and there is a ton to do and see here in the Vegas area.    We spent the day doing our normal day-before-we-depart tasks.  Doreen got us caught up on laundry.  We topped off the pantry and fueled the truck.  Doreen made a double batch of her Warren County Blue Ribbon-winning salsa.  I took care of the dumping/flushing tanks, uploading potable water, stowing hoses and all that fun stuff.

We are literally "turning the corner" on our 2023 RV adventures, as we head back north and east ultimately heading back towards Iowa in mid-September.  But we have a lot of sights and people to see yet, so we are a long ways from done!

Tomorrow's drive is about 221 miles, so not a terrible day, but an interesting one as we drive from Nevada to Arizona to Utah, back to Arizona then back to Utah before arriving at our campground!  It should be a scenic drive.

Our destination tomorrow is called Bryce Zion Campground since it is located between Bryce Canyon National Park and Zion National Park.  We will be there 6 nights and plan to visit both parks.  The drive to Zion should be interesting as there is a 1930's era tunnel we have to pass through, and due to the width of our truck we have to pay a fee and they actually shut down traffic to allow us to drive right down the middle!!  The tunnel is too short for our 13 ft 4-1/2 in tall trailer, so that's why the NV-AZ-UT-AZ-UT drive tomorrow to avoid that tunnel.

Depending on how it works out on our stay here, we may also drive south to see the north rim of the Grand Canyon.  That is more than a two hour drive one-way, so we will see if that materializes or not.  Due to the distance/time, Liberty would have to come with us, and she is not welcome in the National Park trails, so, again, we will have to see...  There are also some western movie set locations in the general vicinity that we might explore.

Next report, Glendale UT and Bryce Zion Campground!
