18 Jun 2023 - Arrived at Tom's Campground near Dodgeville WI

This morning we pulled chocks at Kalbus County Campground near Oshkosh WI at 0925 hrs and headed southwest towards Madison WI and our next stop near Dodgeville WI.  It was a short travel day at only 135 miles.  Check-in at our next campground was at 1500 hrs but I talked with the owners and our campsite was unoccupied, so he said to come on down.  We made one comfort stop east of Madison and then skirted Madison on the south and then west to Tom's Campground where we landed at 1222 hrs.

Everything is very dry here at this time.

We are way at the very top in the center - no neighbors!!

This is a rural family-owned campground located in hill country in Southwest Wisconsin. There is nothing fancy here, but Tom, the owner,  is a solid guy and the campground is nice.  Out site is level and the 50 amp power is good.  Water pressure is solid at about 45 psi but there is no sewer connection.  That is OK because we have a lot of capacity with our onboard tanks.  A three day stay is no problem at all.

This stop is a staging area for our trip to Cedar Falls and our 50th high school class reunion.  We are near New Glarus WI and the New Glarus Brewing Company, makers of the famous Spotted Cow beer! We are also near Prairie du Sac where Mike and Ellen Abernathy live.  Mike is the son of my late cousin Vicky Schellhase Abernathy, so according to our family tree software he is my "1st cousin once removed"!.  He is one of the only relatives I still have from that side of the family.  I have not seen Mike in quite a few years and we have made plans to meet up with Mike and his wife Ellen in a town between where he lives and where we are camping.

Other than that, we did have some damage on our trip here today.  The route leaving our campground took us down a lakefront road with low trees.  There is no one to blame but myself as I could have chose a different route, but luckily the damage was isolated to a WiFi Ranger external antenna/router.

This ladder-mounted device has been broken previously and repaired several times. I will likely look for an alternative antenna/router to replace it with, hopefully something more low-profile.

For Father's Day dinner tonight we grilled some brats, peppers, onions, and sweet corn and had a nice meal out on the picnic table.

So that is it for today.  Happy Father's Day to all you fathers out there.
