3 Jun 2023 - Arrived at Holiday Park Campground Traverse City MI

Rise and shine happened early this morning.  The 2023 Alliance National Rally is over and many including our son-in-law Keith and us were making preparations to bug-out.  Keith was headed back to his home and family just south of Milwaukee WI and we were headed northernMichigan and our next destination.

As we prepared to leave, many of our Alliance FamAlly were headed out to participate in the "Colors For Kids Family Fun Run and Walk", a fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Club of Elkhart IN. What is really significant about this is these same folks spent the entire week working on a fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Club that raised over $17,000 and here they are at it again this morning!  We are so proud to be a part of this great group!  So as we loaded up, many stopped by and gave us a big hug as we said our goodbyes.

With the Elkhart County 4H Fairgrounds Campground and the 2023 Alliance National Rally in our rear view mirror, we headed north into Michigan this morning at 0815 hrs

We stopped once at a Loves truck stop near Plainwell MI and we stopped at a rest area where another Alliance coach pulled in next to us!  They had also been at the Rally and were also headed to their next destination in Michigan. We had a nice talk with them and then we pressed on north up highway 131 towards Traverse City.

The drive through central and northern Michigan reminds us of our years in Maine.

Exactly five hours and 240 miles after departure we rolled into the Holiday Park Campground in Traverse City MI.  We will be here for the next four nights with no firm plans.  We stayed here 2-7 Sep 2021 when we visited most of the lighthouses and many of the sites.  We also searched for the elusive Petosky stones and found some!

Yesterday we were contacted by Steve and Kelley Cerny who work here at the Holiday Park Campground during the summer and just so happen to own an Alliance 390MP, the same as our daughter.  We met them in 2021 when we camped here.  Steve invited us to join them for some smoked brisket on Monday and we are really looking forward to it!!

After we arrived today I changed out my water filter elements.  They have been doing what they are designed to do - help to purify the wide variety of campground water we experience.  We use a two-stage filter system.  The first filter element is a 5 micron "particulate filter" or what they call a " universal standard capacity grooved filter, which is designed to catch the bigger "chunks" and extend the life of the second filter.  That one is a carbon block cartridge filter which further purifies the water by removing chlorine, rust, sediment, taste and odor.  So here is a "before and after".

This is a very well maintained campground.  The sites are level and long, full hook up of course.  There are playgrounds for the kids, a sand beach, a fishing lake and friendly staff!

Nicely spaced!

We will be "keeping our heads on a swivel" here though.  Seems we have a wandering welcome committee:

to me

Good morning!

Be aware that a bear has been spotted in the park this morning. The Sheriffs Dept. and the DNR have been notified. PLEASE make sure you do not leave out any trash, food, bird seed or anything that a bear might like to eat!!

Keep a close eye on your pets and children.

Respect wildlife...always observe from a distance and DO NOT approach the bear, as they do not like surprises!

Have a WONDERFUL and SAFE weekend!
